Vedic Calendar

A calendar is a system of dividing time by days, weeks, months and years based on astronomical criteria and/or according to the development of some activity. It relates events to certain times of the year and is used to remember when an event occurs. Calendars are constructed through astronomical observations and complex mathematical calculations.

However, the Vedic Calendar is not a man-made calendar, it is based on the functioning of the Laws of Nature. It is not just a tool for making appointments for the future. It is a tool that brings the order of Natural Law into our lives and grants us knowledge about the laws of nature. It informs us on which day a specific Law of Nature is most awake, most enlivened, closest to us and thus obtain a benefit for our lives.

The transcendental Being is an ocean of infinite intelligence and creativity. This ocean of consciousness contains the total potential of Natural Law, that is, it contains all the laws of Nature. Each wave of this infinite ocean is a specific law of Nature, which in terms of the Veda is called a “devata”, which is responsible for a specific function of nature.

For example, the day of the year with the quality of Cosmic Intelligence called Maha Lakshmi is associated with that Law of Nature, the devata, responsible for administering in the universe the qualities of fullness, wealth, material and spiritual abundance.

The values of Cosmic Intelligence represented in the Vedic calendar are then the qualities of the Intelligence of Nature that characterize each particular day of the year. Putting our attention on the day that one of those cosmic intelligences is celebrated on that specific intelligence, its values and qualities, means enlivening those values and qualities in oneself and in the environment that surrounds us. The revival of these values and qualities restores in us those values of that cosmic intelligence.

The Vedic Calendar is connected with the cycles of the moon, sun, planets and stars, therefore, it is connected with Jyotish, the Vedic astrology. This calendar celebrates an event related to a particular devata, a specific law of Nature, whose natural cycles are known and described through Jyotish. Jyotish is the tool that builds the Vedic Calendar. Thanks to Jyotish we can know when a Law of Nature will be more awakened in order to obtain support for our material and spiritual needs.

Associated with this technology of Jyotish is the technology called Yagya, which aims to enliven in us specific qualities of the laws of Nature that serve our evolution. For example and according to the devata mentioned above, when the Yagya is performed on the day of Mahalakshmi, then the values and qualities of that particular cosmic intelligence will be enlivened in us much more because that cosmic law is on that day “closer” to us.

“In the Vedic Calendar each day is a celebration of the Divine within man. With the dawn of each new day, a different quality of Nature’s Intelligence awakens within us.” -Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
